Types Of Partnerships There are two types of business
partnerships:
A General Partnership is
the most common form of partnership. It is a simple way for two or more people
to come together with a business idea. A general partnership is when all
partners within a business are equally responsible for the business’ liabilities
and debts. All partners are involved in the management of the company and have
equal rights to control/manage the business. For all actions, you require
common consent of all partners. Any obligation made by one partner is legally
binding on all partners.
In a Limited Partnership , limited
partners are simply investors, also known as a silent partner. They don’t
participate in the management of the business and have no control over any
business decisions, and are not liable beyond their investment. If the company
ever ends up in debt, original investments may be lost but personal assets of
the silent partner are protected. Once you have made a financial contribution as
a limited partner, you cannot remove it, but you do have the ability to make
further investments.
